This is tough. I’m with poesy (pockets? I’m not sure what to call you, haha) in that I would have probably been uncomfortable had I stayed with a male student I didn’t know when I was a prospective student at the co-ed school I visited. Not because I think that all…
There are definitely co-ed schools in the area (in the consortium, especially) who allow cismale students to host cisfemale students. My friend did an overnight at Hampshire in the spring at the same time I had an overnight at Smith, and she (a straight cis-female) was hosted by a cis-male. Hampshire is definitely not the most mainstream school, to be sure, but it happens at co-ed schools, so I don’t think the “it’s inappropriate for female prospies to be hosted by male students because it doesn’t happen elsewhere!” argument is valid.
I do think prospective students should be informed ahead of time if they’re going to be hosted by a male student and allowed to transfer hosts, for reasons like the ones stated above.
(Also, women can be predatory as well. Just saying. If your argument is “male students can’t host female prospies because what if they act predatory”, then shouldn’t you also be arguing against LBG cis-female students hosting?)
