How is Ginny’s quidditch ability more Mary-Sue than Harry’s, when she has been secretly practising since she was 6, and Harry magically caught the remembrall in an amazing, unprecedented performance the first time he got on a broom (discounting his brief use of a toy broom at like 1)? Oh, wait.
How is Ginny’s attractiveness more Mary-Sue than Harry’s, when she dated like 2 or 3 people, and Harry was asked to the Yule Ball by a second/third year, dated popular Choice Chang, and was pursued by Romilda Vane? Hang on, looks like they’re both considered attractive.
How is Ginny’s skill at performing hexes more Mary-Sue worthy than Harry’s magical ability, when he could produce a corporeal patronus in third year? Oops.
How about Ginny’s social skills? Yeah, Harry is angsty for the 5th book especially so he isn’t ‘perfect’, but Ginny was unable to speak to Harry for the first few books. Looks like there’s relative equity again.
Humour? They both display wit.
Ability to deal with trauma? He suffers far more, but she forges ahead and deals with the aftermath of possession by Voldemort effectively alone. She deals too, and isn’t completely unscathed, demonstrated in the 5th book when she talks to Harry about it.
Looks like if Ginny’s a ‘Mary-Sue’, so is Harry. So maybe we should consider that before dismissing her. ‘Mary-Sue’ is a bullshit, sexist term anyway, no time for that.
You are my new favorite person.
if you plug your headphones into a hole in tree you can hear tree thoughts. stuff like “birds live in my hair” “water is my favorite” “the sun is my boyfriend”
what if magic was real but it was treated the way music is now with different genres and shit like “oh youre still into conjuring? thats cool I guess. recently ive been getting into third-wave post-necromancy, it’s some pretty heavy stuff”
when i get a runny nose
This is honestly so relatable and I’m going to need everyone else to step it up a notch
Watch The Slow Progress of Marriage Equality In One GIF
As of now 16 states have legalized gay marriage, 33 states still ban it either because of their constitution or state laws, and then we have New Mexico with no professed opinion either way (although some counties have started issuing marriage licenses in recent months).
The above GIF shows developments in the fight for marriage equality from 1973-2014. While it looks black at first, the pink and purple start creeping in there to give us hope.
Gay marriage in Hawaii goes into effect in December, Illinois in June 2014 and Oregon now recognizes out of state marriage. So maybe New Mexico should stop watching re-runs of Breaking Bad for five minutes and sack up in the fight for marriage equality. What do you say?
this gif is a good reminder of the fact that marriage equality victories were preceded by an enormous wave of same-sex marriage bans—not the other way around. the fight for same-sex marriage became the major movement it is today not because lgbt activists decided it was critically important but largely because paranoid conservatives forced the issue and activists were compelled to fight back (and the media—run overwhelmingly by straight people—focused a lot of attention on it because it was, and is, scandalous to straight audiences). it’s not wrong to criticize the disproportionate prioritization of same-sex marriage—on the contrary—but i think this is important context to remember when we do.
there is a thin line between being sassy and being an asshole and i cross it everyday
"I WHISPERED, ‘I am too young,’
And then, ‘I am old enough’;
Wherefore I threw a penny
To find out if I might love.
‘Go and love, go and love, young man,
If the lady be young and fair.’
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
I am looped in the loops of her hair.
O love is the crooked thing,
There is nobody wise enough
To find out all that is in it,
For he would be thinking of love
Till the stars had run away
And the shadows eaten the moon.
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
One cannot begin it too soon."
Keats, Brown Penny
